My 1st cake of the year & also my first cake after 2 months of open hand surgery :D I just LOVE the way this cake came out. I was scared that I was not going to pull it off since it was my first time working with my hands again. The whole cake was at my friend's request. She came with her own drawing & then told me what all she wanted on the cake. At first I was like 'YIKES', but I was extremly happy at how it came out. All figures are made out of fondant & hand molded from scratch. 1st layer of cake is vanilla with buttercream frosting, 2nd is vanilla with chocolate frosting & 3rd layer is chocolate with vanilla frosting, covered in MMF of course :) All bears are chocolate fondant & anything with yellow is banana fondant.
My cousin Ivania had a house warming\4th of July party. 3rd of July marks my one year anniversary for making cakes. So I told my cousin that I would make her a 4th of July cake but I wanted to make it special because it was my annivarsary. What better idea to celebrate a anniversary than the Statue of Liberty - well a cute on at least :D This was also my first time using rice crispie treats to make a 3D cake. I'm really proud of myself, here's to more annivarsaries & cakes!!!
This cake is Wilton inspired. I wanted to make a cake for my family for the 4th of July. I love to look at Wilton's site for inspiration & ideas. I didn't want to make a huge cake, because I knew that there would be other desserts there. It was a hit, all my family liked it & I was glad I was able to make it. Funny though, one of my cousins that just found out that I'm making cakes asked, "Did you make this?" My brother joking said, "Nah, she got it at Target". I had to laugh.
This was my very 1st fondant cake!!! I went back home (USA) for a visit & got caught up in all the hipe about cakes. Its amazing what can be done. I wanted so bad to learn so that I could make my daugther's 1st birthday cake. I went online & found out how to make fondant (it was hard). Then I just started to put things together. I have a long way to go from the pros, but I manage to make a 4th of July cake for a party here in Danmark. There's a group us Americans here & we have to celebrate home holidays. It was a hit & my friends where surprised at what I did. I'm really hoping to master or at least get better at making cake using fondant.
Where do I start? I moved to Denmark to follow my heart. Along the path I have encounter many obstacles. Each & everyone of them I have manage to conquere & learn from them. I have a beautiful daughter & a wonderful husband. I use to work in the legal field & now I make cakes. A total 360, from where I used to be in my career. I found this new found talent & LOVE IT!! Its hasn't even been a year yet & I've learned to accomplish many cake making techniques. I know there's more out there. Why Det var så Lidt? In danish its "You're welcome". I want to give credit to the country where I found this new talent :D
