I enter a cake competition and this was the cake that I competed with. I am from Texas and currently living in Danmark. I miss home sooo much & I wanted to make something from 'home'. Why not a Texas cake?? I wanted to put in as many details as I could & I was soo happy with how this cake came out. This was my first cake competition, I only have one & half years of making cakes. I competed in semi-pro division. I didn't win first place but I did win 2nd place. For my first cake competition I think I did ok. At least I got the silver medal :D
This cake was for Clara, she was turning 4 & already knew what she wanted to be when she grows up ;) She wanted a hospital cake, her only request was - Hospital HAD to be purple!! The rest I came up with. I think that sometimes doctors feel that nurses don't know how to do their work. This nurse showed him :D This was my first time working with marcipan, all my cakes are fondant. So it was a bit hard. Cake is 3 layers: chocolate, vanilla, chocolate; chocolate frosting covered with marcipan.
Fastelavn a popular holiday in Denmark & most children get dressed up similar to the Americans during Halloween. Gather for the popular game of "Slaa Katten af Toenden" ("hit the cat out of the barrel"). Holiday comes 7 weeks before Easter Sunday & has been described as a Nordic Halloween. A time for fun & family games. Similar to a piñata, except the candy is in a large barrel decorated with the image of a cat.

A friend of mine wanted a cake for her mom's birthday. Her idea was to give her a heart shaped candybox. I just had to make sure that I create her idea in a cake. This cake is what I came up with. Hershey's kisses are store bought (sometimes you gotta cheat ;) Chocolate orange cake, chocolate frosting covered in marshmellow fondant. Lid of cake is made out of fondant as well as the roses.
This is a Debbie Brown inspired cake. My mother inlaw is a chef & she also bakes. She wanted to a cake for a dinner party. I thought a good way to describe her is when she's in the kitchen. My father inlaw is such a patient man, always there calming her. Orange cake with chocolate frosting covered in marshmellow fondant. All characters are made out of fondant, egg white is pipping gel & spilled milk is royal icing.
